In the news this week we start with an update on our story about Club Licenses. Last week we told you about how Club Licensing works and how the ACMA finally ruled about the operation of such a license by two Amateurs during the John Moyle Memorial Field Day - Andrew has more.

If you're looking for an excuse to visit Cairns in September, Dianne has a personal invitation for you to consider.

Glynn reminds us about on-air scouting activity, Bob teaches us some relevant Latin phrases and we welcome a whole pack of new Amateurs to our Airwaves.

We'll have a look at getting set-up as a new Amateur and what gear you should look at when you're beginning in the hobby.

Also a quick update on the NCDXF beacon here in Western Australia, meetings around Amateur Radio, Roy's Helpline and Foundations of Amateur Radio.

NewsWest is produced by WA Amateur Radio News and can be heard on-air, on-demand and on-line.

Next week we'll take a closer look at contesting, so if you have a contribution to make, send it in to newswest@vk6.net, the production deadline is noon on Friday, that's 04:00 UTC on Friday.

If you have a comment to make, an opinion to venture, the soapbox is always open. Send your audio as a 44kHz, 256kBit mono mp3 file, no longer than 3 minutes and we'll put it to air. If you're having trouble putting it together, drop us a line and we'll help you out.

If you'd like your own personal copy of this news bulletin, you can download it from our website at vk6.net, or you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes, just search for VK6WIA to add it to your podcast software.

All the information is on the website at vk6.net where you'll also find lists of repeaters, beacons, meetings, contests, DX activities, clubs and other resources related to Amateur Radio.
