20180325 - VK6WIA NewsWest for Sunday 25 March 2018 - Contest Edition [30:00]

Post date: Mar 24, 2018 7:48:51 AM

In the news this week we take a closer look at contesting with updates from the CQWPX contest, Harry Angel 80m sprint, the International Museums Weekend and a wrap up from the John Moyle Memorial Field Day.

We have a contesting tip from Scott K9JY who encourages you to put your log in, even if you only made three contacts and we'll hear from Bob VK6POP on the road somewhere between here and the black stump, where no-news is good news, well, that's if you believe other news sources around the place.

If that's not enough to tickle your fancy, what about an excuse to visit a pub or a club with your amateur radio buddies, set up a station, drink beer, make contacts, did I mention the beer?

Speaking of nutrition, the Hills Amateur Radio Group is looking to feed you with their famous HARG burger at the HARGfest coming up, so check out Ray's Reminder.

Roy regales us with royalties from the region, or was that a different Roy, ours is helping you with the Weekly Helpline.

There's Ham College, the WA VHF Group, a survey, coax and connector losses and more.

Since 1931 this is NewsWest, amateur radio news for amateurs by amateurs right here, right now.

On behalf of the team here at WA Amateur Radio News, thanks for taking the time to tune in, on-air, on-line or on-demand, it's great to have your company.

As Glynn mentions, next week is the club focus edition of the news. We'd love to hear from your club. Send your story to newswest@vk6.net before noon on Friday.

On occasion we see messages on social media about the nature of the stories in NewsWest and how we're anti-WIA, how we would like nothing more than to see the end of the Wireless Institute of Australia and how we're biased in our reporting.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

We take our role as news producers seriously, we verify our sources, validate before publication and work hard to report the facts without emotion or opinion. That's not to say we shy away from opinion, in fact we welcome it.

If you have something to say, please check out the soapbox submission requirements on the vk6.net website and you too can contribute to the news.

We believe that strong representation is important, but we also believe that honesty and integrity are requirements for holding office.

We'll continue to expose lies and half-truths where we find them and we'll continue to broadcast the news in the strong tradition that has been followed by many broadcast officers before us, going back to our humble beginnings in 1931.

If you have questions or comments, feedback, good or bad, the address is newswest@vk6.net.

Send your stories, tall or true, audio production, scripts, events, updates, membership information, meeting announcements, AGM alerts, contests, swap-meets and more to us and we'll happily present your contribution on-air.

Please register your callback, either on-air, or on-line. Visit vk6.net and click on the callback button. You can also subscribe to our announcement list and we'll let you know when the news is hot off the press.
