Gidgegannup is a large rural location in the Perth Hills, offering a wide variety of places nearby to explore and admire. Here's a selection.
Walyunga and Avon Valley National Parks. Both parks straddle the Avon Valley, and offer walking trails and spectacular scenery, and in October - wildflowers galore. There's camping at both, however the Avon Valley Park camping is on the South side of the Valley, and Walyunga on the North side.
Mundaring Weir, the head of the historic Goldfields water supply, is in the centre of the Beelu National Park. There's a museum devoted to the history, scenic walks and picnic spots, and a pub dishing up good food and sometimes entertainment. There's also a campsite and environmental education centre.
Toodyay is an historic town about 40ms East of Gidgegannup. It was one of the early goldmining towns in WA, and was orginally known as Newcastle until 1910.
Lake Leschenaultia is a nice spot for a picnic, canoeing, and has camping.
Eating Out. There are some great pubs and restaurants around the area that serve up decent meals.
The Swan Valley is 25 minutes down the hill.
Shopping. Each location has a small store, post office, cafe etc, however the main shopping centre is in Mundaring - 15 minutes from the venue - there's Woolworths, Coles and Aldi and smaller stores, cafes, bakeries etc. The regional centre with the larger shops and services, including a hospital, is Midland, 25 minutes down the road.
